Thanks.

It's frustrating for sure, especially from an American point of view. And to see a BBC journalist ask a group of protesting Americans who've probably never even left their state, let alone the country, what they think of the NHS and get such ridiculous answers just makes you want to slam your head into a wall. But I guess that's what you can expect from people who automatically associate anything they don't like with Hitler.

The is the best post I have ever read, thank you.

Sometimes I feel that I am the only American who understands just how screwed up America is on some issues. I wish all Americans had the same perspective that you and I have. But I have lived in this country for 25+ years, and have never met a single American who understands this in the an international perspective like I do. And, I don't live in some rural nowhere, I live in New York City.

I have endured terrible pain for years, but because I am unmarried and own my own business, I have no chance of ever being treated. There is simply no way out of this system, except by way of pain, marriage to someone with an employer, working for someone else, or, well, death. I have decided that it will be cheaper for me to pay to become a resident of another country such as Britain -- and get coverage there -- than it would ever be to actually pay for treatment here.

The problem is just that it seems almost everyone here has their heads stuck into the sand, blind to the outside world. There is no realistic hope of it ever getting better. Yes, Obama's bill would solve my particular problems, but at this point its too late. I don't want another cent going to this fucked up system, even it is on somebody else's dime.
