Design
In my spare time, I make stuff. I do a little of everything — doodling, screenprinting, sewing, embroidery, baking, cooking, painting, photography, digital design — and I love to try new things.
It’s becoming more and more obvious that I don’t have the space to squirrel away every last thing that I create. I try to make things for other people most of the time, but I’ve recently become pretty into screenprinting in particular. I really only need one copy of my prints, and one can only have so much stationery floating around, so I decided that selling some of it might be a good way to get other people to shun Hallmark while getting some more money for my holiday fund (or, let’s be honest, my school loan payments).
So I’ve finally opened up shop on Etsy. I’m currently selling some prints and cards, and I plan on adding some other random bits in the future, like photographs, nerdy embroidery, and maybe even some sewing. I use recycled paper and eco-friendly packaging, especially for stationery, because while I think paper communication is much cooler than electronic, I like to save trees and avoid waste.
Good Causes
A percentage of any profit I make will go to charity (at least 15%, maybe more). I currently support Dogs Trust and World Wildlife Fund, but I’ll generally help out with anything I think is a good cause.
This holiday season, I will be donating to Oxfam’s Pakistan Floods Response fund. Because I am a UK taxpayer, I can make Gift Aid donations, which adds 28%. That’s an awesome thing! I will post details of donation amounts here periodically.
Donation update
28 December 2010
I have just made a donation of £30 plus gift aid to Oxfam’s Pakistan Floods Relief. £25 of that came from Chocolate Cake & Beer Christmas card sales! Absolutely awesome!
